The Yan Family Instructions
The Yan Family Instructions is a work written by Yan Zhitui, recording his personal experience, ideology, and knowledge to instruct his offspring in the Southern and Northern Dynasties. It is the first family instructions featuring rich content and magnificent system in the Chinese history, with the emphasis on an educational system centered on Confucianism. This system should especially focus on the early education of children. Also, he raised his unique perception on Confucianism, literature, Buddhism, history, language, folk custom, society and ethics, etc. Therefore, it was honored by posterity as an example of family education.
